Note on Rank-Biserial Correlation when There Are Ties

چکیده
The objective of this article is to demonstrate with examples that the two-sided tie correction does not work well. This was developed by Cureton so Kendall’s tau-type and Spearman’s rho-type formulas for rank-biserial correlation yield same result when ties are present. However, a based on bracket achieves desired goal, which demonstrated algebraically checked three examples. On one hand, 10-element random sample given Cureton, in performs well, taken up. other two given, 7-element clinical 31 participants, work, but new does. It concluded corrected coincide Goodman-Kruskal’s gamma as compared Glass’ formula matches Somers’ dY|X or asymmetric measure association Y ranking respect X dichotomy. use underreported coefficient suggested, very easy calculate from its equivalence Kruskal-Wallis’ dY|X.

A Note on Correlation and Rank Reduction
We review both full-rank and reduced-rank parameterizations for correlation matrices. In particular, the full-rank parameterizations of Rebonato (1999d) and Schoenmakers and Coffey (2000), the reduced-rank angle parameterization of Rebonato (1999d) and Rebonato and Jäckel (1999), and the well known zeroed-eigenvalues reduced-rank approximation are described in detail. Numerical examples are pro...
متن کاملA trinomial test for paired data when there are many ties
Acknowledgments: We are grateful to the Editor and two anonymous referees for their substantive comments that have significantly improved this manuscript. Abstract This paper develops a new test, the trinomial test, for pairwise ordinal data samples to improve the power of the sign test by modifying its treatment of zero differences between observations, thereby increasing the use of sample inf...
متن کاملPoint-Biserial Correlation Analysis of Fuzzy Attributes
Previous studies have presented correlation analyses among fuzzy attributes. This study proposes a correlation analysis method among crisp attributes and fuzzy attributes to investigate their linear relationships. If A and B are two attributes, A is a nominal-dichotomous attribute, and B is a fuzzy attribute. Thus, identifying the relationship between A and B is possible by using the pointbiser...
متن کاملWhen There Are Only Minorities
Intergroup relation perspectives stem from research in Western contexts with clear distinctions between the dominant and nondominant groups. In South Africa, with at least 13 different cultural groups and 11 official languages, no group is dominant in all life spheres. We examine the relationship between identity and in-/out-group orientation across Black-Zulu, Coloured (mixed racial ancestry),...
متن کاملP30: Are There Anxious Genes?
Anxiety comprises many clinical descriptions and phenotypes. A genetic predisposition to anxiety is undoubted; however, the nature and extent of that contribution is still unclear. Extensive genetic studies of the serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine, 5-HT) transporter (5-HTT) gene have revealed how variation in gene expression can be correlated with anxiety phenotypes. Complete genome-wide linkage s...
